1878 FIESCHI CONSPIRACY GENOA DORIA FAMILY DOGE Author: Spencer, O. M. Title: The Fieschi Conspiracy Publisher: New York: Harper & Brothers, 1878. Notes: This 13 page article describes the January, 1547 conspiracy to overthrow / take over the Genoa city gates and galleys in the port, during the interregnum before the election of the new doge. Giovanni Luigi Fieschi is best known for his part in a failed conspiracy against the Doria family. Although some high ranking Doria family members were killed, all of the Fieschi faction were captured, tried, tortured and executed; and all their estates were seized. An interesting article on a power struggle that had allies in Pope Paul III, in the Duke of Parma Pier Luigi Farnese and in Francis I of France. Article contains 9 larger detailed engravings / illustrations of the conspirators and characters of the story. Condition: Complete article removed from within original Harper's Monthly Magazine. Original wrapers-bound removed and missing. Now enclosed in a archival crystal-clear magazine slip.
