THE FOREST GIANT - by Adrien Le Corbeau, Translated by J.H. Ross (T.E. LAWRENCE) Contents: JH Ross is a pseudonym T.E. Lawrence used during 1922-1923. J.H. Ross was the assumed name of T.E. Lawrence and the name under which he joined the Tank Corps after his return from Arabia. Lawrence was "translating a book on the life of the Californian Pine tree from the French, in order to pay for his motor-cycle." Book Description: London: Jonathan Cape, 1924. 1st English edition in original dust jacket. Yellow linen spine with light grey olive paper covered boards. Measures 7-3/4" x 5-1/4" wide. 158 pp. Condition: Overall, book in very good condition. DJ spine darkened with moderate edgewear and small nicks at head of spine with some paper loss. John Howard Lawson was the co-founder and first President of the Screen Writers Guild. However, he was one of the 'Hollywood Ten' who fell foul of the House of Un-American Activities Committee by claiming the 1st Amendment and refusing to answer questions. Lawson was found guilty of contempt by Congress and sentenced to 12 months in Ashland Prison and fined $1,000. He was blacklisted by the Hollywood studios and moved to Mexico to continue writing and film-making.
