Overall, very good condition, with flaws noted: Corners and edges bumped and rubbed. Marbled covers show some wear and scratches. Some soiling visible on front board of vol 1. Outer spine gilt title very bright and readable. Leather in clean and complete condition - showing knicks or rubbing to raised bands and edges. Internally clean and tight binding - very bright text and illustrations. No pages removed. Not ex-library. Absolutely no interior writing. Minimal foxing present only on endpapers - text is clean and bright.

Pages 455-459; and original photocopied article "Farragut's Demands for the Surrender of New Orleans", as published in Century Magazine Vol 32, Issue 3 July 1886. Pages 459-464. A photocopy of the three original articles: "Fighting Farragut"11 pages with 11 illustrations and maps; "Occupation" 5 pages with 8 illustrations; and "Farragut's Demands" with 6 pages and one illustration - all with enlarged and clear text. This article comes from the original Century Magazine publication - carefully removed, cleaned, enlarged and photocopied to fit 8-1/2" x 11" sheets of paper. They were compiled by a lifelong collector of woodblock illustrations, who later compiled and professionally published them in this booklet. This is an original publication from Yesterday in Pictures, Inc. dating from 1990. This booklet measures 8-1/2" x 11". This publication is no longer in print, as only one edition was ever made.

This text of this title was edited entirely from his letters and rearranged into blank verse, to accompany an exhibition of artwork at the Rourke Art Gallery, Moorhead MN in 1993. Appendix with the Death of Joseph Smith, the Mormon Prophet, and the Mississippi Flood. Full title: The History of Illinois, from its First Discovery and Settlement, to the Present Time. Includes previous owner's illustrated bookplate: notable Chicagoan Joseph T. Ryerson (of the Ryerson & Son Steel company). This is a very early and important history of the state and major cities, from their early settlement leading to the present (1840's). The Expedition to Vincennes, Tecumseh, Battle of Tippecanoe, War of 1812, Black Hawk War and Joseph Smith's death and the Mormons are discussed. Overall, fair condition, with flaws noted: Map missing. Previously rebound ex-library copy, with pastedowns on front board. Title page has Chicago Historical Society embossed stamp, as well as DD number and library shelving info on copyright page (pencil). Original board coverings removed and nicely remounted on rebound copy; blindstamping of front and back covers still noticeable. Board corners and edges bumped and rubbed. Head and tail of spine show a bit of chipping. Both outer boards show a bit of soiling from age. Some water staining to first few inner corner pages, as well as noticeable darker stain on front and rear covers. Internally, contents have some loose pages, as well as pages detached and laid in. Detached and laid-in pages have chipped edges from not aligning with text block. Previous owner's bookplate affixed to inner rear cover (see description). Lastly, adhesive tape label removed from spine, with white dry adhesive mark remaining.
