Chicago: Ken, Inc. Published April 7th, 1938. Magazine titled, "The Coming Moroccan Revolt". Measures 13-1/2" tall x 10-5/8" wide. 138 pp. with lots of articles, ads, illustrations and photos. Contains the Hemingway article, "The Time Now, The Place Spain" (Hanneman #C 283). Hemingway argues that a world war can be averted if Mussolini and Fascism are beaten in Spain. This is the first of 13 articles and one short story that Hem wrote for Ken. The boxed notice was taken directly from a telegram which Hemingway sent to Arnold Gingrich, the editor - the only change was the insertion of the words "contracted and" in the second sentence. This is the first and only appearance of this article, including other topics highlighted by Ken (anti-nazi, anti-fascist, etc). Other highlights of this issue include a George Petty Old Gold Cigarette 'Petty Pinup illustration', as well as an important collection of photos (including 'Migrant Mother' Florence Owens Thompson) documenting the tough economic times (dust bowl era) by Dorthea Lange, an important photojournalist. Magazine in good condition with flaws noted: Bottom and top corners have faint creases; thumb creases toward center front edge; small rubbing to front cover; spine staples tight, although pages 69-72 have come loose from staples and is laid-in. Also, on page 17-18, a small illustration has been cut out from the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad advertisement - this removal also affects a Jameson Irish Whiskey advertisement (page 17).
