Chicago Reilly & Lee 1917 1st Edition Hardcover Good Book
A first edition, first printing copy of Guest's third book of poetry, the beginning of a prolific career. Guest penned some 11,000 poems, which were syndicated in some 300 newspapers and collected in more than 20 books - first published in 1916. This is a very early and scarce book by Guest, or 'the people's poet'. Chicago: Reilly & Lee Co., 1917. First edition. Black cloth spine hardcover, in no dust jacket. Measures 4-1/2" x 6-3/4" tall. 192 pp. Top edge gilt. Gilt title decoration on front cover; gilt title on spine. Overall, good condition, with flaws noted: Board corners bumped and rubbed. Head and tail of spine bumped and rubbed. First block of pages (title page - page 14) loose from block, yet still securely attached. No interior writing present. Not ex-library.

Chicago: Reilly & Lee, 1940. First edition. Hardcover with yellow paper covered boards on brown cover and spine. Shadowed green title on cover. 12mo - measures (5 1/2" x 7 3/4"). 60 pages. A collection of 42 selected poems by Guest, including "My Creed," "Be a Friend," "Only a Dad," "Life's Highway," "I Ain't Dead Yet," and others. Book in very good condition with flaws noted: Clean and tight binding with great corners and no flaws to speak of. Previous owner's gift inscription on end paper, with raised monogram stamp present as well, else no interior marks, writing, tears, etc. Not an ex-library book. Very nice example of a book well taken care of.
